In the usage report in the Chargefox portal, you will see a CO2 abatement amount for each session.
The amount of CO2 abated is calculated as follows:
- We convert the charge session consumption to kms by multiplying by 6. This actually varies quite a bit by car type, but 6 km per kWh is a reasonably conservative number.
- We then take average gCO2 emissions of 189g/km (sourced from the National Transport Commission) to get a total gCO2 that would have been emitted if this was an ICE vehicle traveling the same distance.
- We then multiply that number by the percentage of green energy supplied.
- If the charger is 100% green energy, it's the full amount.
- If not, we assume a conservative default percentage of 42.5% renewables in the grid (sourced from Open Electricity data).
If your charge station is using green energy and you believe the amount of CO2 abated is incorrect, please contact us so we can correct this.
Example:
| Consumption | Kms per kWh | Average car CO2 emissions | Average grid renewables percentage | CO2 abated |
| 27.30kWh | 6 | 189g/kWh | 42.5% | 13.16kgCO2 |
