Learn the basics of charging your EV at a station on the Chargefox platform.
Launch the Chargefox app
If you haven't already, please download the Chargefox app via the Apple App store or Google Play.
Launch the Chargefox app on your phone. If this is the first time you've opened the app, follow the on-screen steps to sign up and add a payment method.
Find your charging location
Use the map to search or navigate to the charging location you'd like to charge at. If you know the station ID number, you can also type it into the search bar.
TIP: Tap 'Allow' when the the app asks to use your current location. This will make it easier for you to find the stations closest to you.
Select your station
Tap the pin on the map. You will see more information about the charging location, including the location's charging speed, plug types and cost to charge. Tap the 'Details' button.
TIP: Type the station ID number in the search bar to directly go to the station.
Some charging locations host multiple stations in the same area. Look for the station's four- or five-digit station ID number: you should see it clearly on the front of the station.
Look for the port letter nearest to the cable you will be using. You will see a corresponding port letter in the app.
Some stations require you to bring your own cable to charge. Find out more
Plug in or unlock to start
There are two ways to start a session : plugging in first, or unlocking first.
In the app:
- If the port says 'Available: Plug in your vehicle', plug the cable into your vehicle. You should then see a 'START' button. Tap it to start your charge.
-
If the port has an 'Unlock' button, tap the button and then plug the cable into your vehicle. Wait for the session to start - this could take a minute or two.

Stopping a charge session
To stop charging, simply tap 'Stop charging' in the app. You can do this remotely, even if you're not near your vehicle. If your session doesn't stop, refer to these troubleshooting tips.
Practice good charging etiquette by returning to your car within 10 minutes of the end of your session.
Some station charge idle fees, which is a per-minute fee that is applied after 10 minutes of being plugged in but not charging. You can also leave a message within the app to let other drivers know how long you will be.
Using an RFID card?
You can also order and use an RFID card to start a charge. Simply follow the on-screen instructions at the station and tap your RFID card against the RFID reader to start your session. Stop the session by tapping the RFID card again on the station or tap 'Stop charging' in the Chargefox app.
